October is my favorite month! And as we know, I love witchy things. So why not combine my love of books and witches to give you a list of books for Witchtober reading goodness? Each link will take you to its listing on Bookshop, a website that supports indie bookstores.
I have not yet read all of the books on the list, however, all of these books are on my TBR list. I know, I know! I had to save some for October, after all!

October 1st
Eva Evergreen, the Semi-Magical Witch by Julie Abe
This is the book that inspired the list, so of course, it has to be the first Witchtober Book Rec! A sweet middle-grade book means it’s for all ages and a fast read. As a bonus, the Did YA Read It? Book Club Podcast also did an episode on it!
October 2nd
Brooklyn Brujas Trilogy by Zoraida Córdova (Labyrinth Lost, Bruja Born, Wayward Witch)
Three for the price of one! I debated listing each individually, but there are so many books I want to share that I decided to include them all at once. Bruja means witch in Spanish.
October 3rd
The Last Windwitch by Jennifer Adam
Right now I seem to have a love affair with charming MG books. Not a bad rabbit hole to fall into.
October 4th
The Witch Boy by Molly Ox Ostertag
We read another graphic novel by her for the Did YA Read It? Podcast, so that made this one an instant add to the list! I’m looking forward to digging into this book!
October 5th
The Black Witch by Laurie Forest
I’ve had this in my TBR for a long time.
October 6th
Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart
The Owlcrate edition is still shrinkwrapped, waiting for me to tackle it.
October 7th
The Mermaid, The Witch, and The Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall
I like the idea of a witch and mermaid meeting, don’t you?
October 8th
These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling
The cover reminded me of the cult film, The Craft, so I picked it up. I know you’re not supposed to judge books by the cover… guilty.
October 9th
The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith
Another book that’s been in my TBR for a good while.
October 10th
The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston
I don’t normally read more realistic type of fiction but this looks like a strong read. You cannot go wrong with time travel in my book, ever.
October 11th
Witches Get Stitches by Juliette Cross
A more contemporary type of story for those who want urban fantasy. To be honest, I adore the cover but I’m not sure if it’s the type of book I would enjoy because it’s outside of my book comfort reading zone. But a good cover has steered me into uncharted waters before, so I’ll tackle this book someday.
October 12th
Witch For Hire by Ted Naifeh
A graphic novel that was nominated for a podcast episode but didn’t pass the voting round. I’m interested in reading it, and it’s Witchober, so onto the list it goes!
October 13th
Little Witch Academia (Manga Series)
The anime movie was one of the cutest things ever. In fact, I even joined the kickstarter for it. Always love anime that has neglible amounts of typical anime tropisms in it.
October 14th
B*WITCH by Paige McKenzie and Nancy Ohlin
Another book I bought for the cover. I don’t know whether to be embarrassed or surprised that I’m not having to google any new books because they’re already on my list… This Witchtober is turning into a shrine of my best book-intentions.
October 15th
A Trial of Sorcerers by Elise Kova
This is another Did YA Read it? Book selection!
October 16th
Hello, I Am a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make Him a Love Potion!
The title gives away the entire premise. It sounds like a cute read, no? Fluffy weekend reads are perfect for cool Witchtober days.
October 17th
The Babysitter’s Coven
A witchy Babysitter’s Club type of book? Sign me the F up!
October 18th
Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz
The cover drew me to this book as well. I can’t really say much else. I’m so bad, but literally cool cover plus witchy concept is enough to hook me.
October 19th
The Witch’s Market by Mingmei Yip
This one is a breaker for me, I normally don’t read these types of books (if you haven’t noticed, I definitely have a cover preference type) and I actually discovered this book while specifically searching for witchy books to read one day.
October 20th
The Wicked Deep by Shane Berkshaw
A girl must choose between her love and her town? Small town secrets? Sounds like a YA novel!
October 21st
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
So, this book confused me at first. Basically there’s another popular series that features a fanfiction written by the lead character. This is the fanfiction! So meta. I applaud every single moment. It’s also a M/M, BL, whatever term you use for it. I am upset there’s not more male/male witchy type of books. Witches are not just female! (But we all hate the patriarchy :P)

Legendborn by Traci Deonn
This was chosen precisely because the lead character looks badass. I hate that it’s my only comment on a lot of these books but it’s the truth so…

Spellcaster by Claudia Gray
I really enjoy this author’s sci-fi works. If you like Star Wars or sci-fi, check out her other books too!

The Witch King by H. E. Edgmon
Look at the characters on that cover? Who wouldn’t want to know their story?

Love Sugar Magic Series by Anna Mariano
This is cute and sweet distilled into adorableness. And as a bonus, it’s another bruja book! I love it! They’re short MG reads so perfect for busy Witchtober lives.

A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison
A pinch of magic straight into my TBR pile, that’s what!
October 27th
Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho
A more mature style fantasy that promises a dramatic read.
October 28th
Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson
This urban fantasy features a girl who revives her friends after they’re murdered and go on a hunt to find the killer. I mean, come on, that hook is amazing!
October 29th
The Girl Who Drank The Moon by Kelly Barnhill
This book looked haunting, so I picked it.
October 30th
Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older
Urban fantasy, strong female lead, going straight onto the list!
October 31st
Kiki’s Delivery Service by Eiko Kadono
I had to save my favorite witch for last. I can think of no witch better to have the honor of Halloween/All Souls’ Day than Kiki and no better way to close out a Witchtober reading list.
